Green STEM Careers

Our Green STEM Careers Hub

We are building a resource for young people to learn more about Green STEM careers and the people who work in them.

We aim to cover a wide range of jobs and skill sets and people from different stages and ages of their career.

We are looking for industry professionals to volunteer.

Travis Mitchell, Engineer and Partner with Environmental Design Partnership, LLP

Travis discusses his role in site and civil permitting work. He recommends exploring different areas of engineering, finding the area you are most interested in and asking companies for experience and internships to learn more.

Hyde Clarke, Associate Attorney with the Environmental Law Firm, Young/Sommer LLC

Hyde helps projects get the right permissions and describes his favourite part of the work he does. Advice he would give is to look for internships, get experience at different institutions that you can then use after school. He took an environmental policy course which made him interested in renewable energy.

Gillian Black, Director of Projects at Eden Renewables

Gillian's job involves getting projects read to build. In this short video he explains his academic path into the industry and his passion for working for change. Gillian went to school to learn about wind turbines and gained qualifications to be able to work in solar. His advise is to make sure you are a good writer, good at maths and can use computer systems like Excel and Word.

Jennifer Gavalotti, Project Coordinator, Eden Renewables

Jennifer explains why she believes social media gives the company a voice and why that's important. Her advice would be to take environmental science classes to get a good knowledge base of the industry.

Stephanie Tomlinson, Director of Operations at Eden Renewables

Stephanie describes her varied role within the company. Her career went quickly from being a receptionist to a co-ordinator because she is so organised. She also explains the different paths in the energy industry and that there is something for everyone.

STEM Live

We work with industry professionals and can bring them live into your classroom. This is a chance to break down children’s misconceptions about STEM careers and the people who do them. We will explore what they do in their job, the skills they need to do their job and what they were good at at school.

Volunteer

Many children do not know anyone who works in a STEM career and have no idea how to go about following such a career path.

If you are able to spend half an hour preparing and another half an hour chatting to young people on a live webinar to discuss your job and skill set and the reasons you like what you do and how different it is from common perceptions. Please do contact us.
